In our group, we collected audience feedback for our trailer which allows us to determine that our desired target audience share their personal opinions on our trailer which will aid us as a group as we will have knowledge of what to change. It also allows us to confirm if our product really reaches out to our initial target demographic.
Before we started our production stage, we created a survey using SurveyMonkey for our audience inquiring what they would like to see and what they expect from us.
Knowing our target audience being aged around 18 (due to the age rating of the film), we used social media sites that appeal to young adults who use these sites such as WhatsApp and Snapchat.

We decided to share our teaser trailer with our friends and family via different social media sites before asking them to complete the survey. This is where we received general feedback and comments on the trailer as well as constructive criticism.

The Next Vengeance Teaser Trailer survey
We used YouTube to upload our trailer as a platform where it is accessible for the public to view our trailer. There is also a comment section as well as a choice to 'like' or 'dislike' the video which would indicate to us, the main response to our trailer. YouTube had a feature where we were able to collect data regarding the number of people that viewed our trailer, the most popular ages as well as gender that viewed our trailer. By having this feature, it allowed us to understand thoroughly what our audience are looking for as well as who enjoys watching a slasher film. The feature gave us an insight to which platforms were used in order to watch the trailer and what country the trailer was being watched in. By Elif Cengizler |
We decided as a group to film our peers' reactions to our horror film trailer using people around our age (17/18) to get an accurate reaction as our target audience is predominantly teenagers of both genders. We recorded over 10 peoples reaction leaving us a range of reactions, making it easier for us to understand the main response to our trailer.
It can be seen that the majority of the viewers were intrigued by the content, for example, the beginning of the montage made the viewer interested as she leaned in to understand more, this can be seen at 1.11 secs in the reaction video. The lighting and the quick paced editing helped achieve these reactions, leaving the audience feeling 'on the edge'. Moreover, it is demonstrated that our jump scare was effective due to the reaction of the viewer at 1.28 secs, informing us that we followed the correct conventions of a successful horror trailer. Also, the viewer at the end said 'That part actually scared me', which also proves that we used our jump scare successfully and effectively. By gaining audience feedback through a reaction video, it allows us to see the strongest parts of our trailer and informs us on what we need to improve on.

Evaluation
The feedback that we received from our target audience benefited our group a lot due to the large amount of respondents, giving us an insight into what our target audience thought about the trailer. All of the people that we asked thought that the non-diegetic sound was very effective and that it matched the footage well, and many of the positive comments on our strength mentioned how the sound made the piece of work much more interesting. This therefore means that our sound design was successful as it achieved its aim of setting an eerie atmosphere and scaring the target audience. 20.69% of the people that we asked however, said that our trailer might be too predicable; this may effect the reaction of the audience as the visceral pleasure received from watching the trailer may not be as much due to them knowing what is going to happen next. We thought that the audience would easily be able to distinguish between the genres and identify our trailer as supernatural/psychological, however 6.67% thought that it was a zombie/monster film. The viewers therefore could not identify the protagonist and antagonist in the trailer either because the pace of the trailer is too fast and the viewers do no get enough time analyse what is going on. The make up and footage may have contributed to this confusion due to the fact that the antagonist was shown to not be moving much, which is a characteristic of zombies. 100% of the views said they liked our trailer which therefore means that as a whole our trailer was successful with the target audience.
POSTER
Olivia Middleton
We collected audience feedback for our poster which helped us determine what our strengths and weaknesses were concerning the image, the colour scheme, the editing and the font. This feedback also allowed us to decide whether our target audience would approve of the poster as well as the rest of the public. Due to our target audience being around the age of 18, the poster had to give the impression of being completely terrifying and inappropriate for those under the age of 18.
For the audience feedback, we used social media apps such as WhatsApp, Snapchat and iMessage. This is effective as it is a broad spectrum of media that our target audience almost all definitely use, this means that we can access more people to give us helpful criticism and feedback.
The Next Vengeance Poster survey
From the feedback we received for the poster, we can assume that the actual image and the editing are the most successful factors concerning the whole thing. Also, the credits and social media tags makes the poster appear incredibly realistic which is what we were hoping for. The colour scheme was described as "dull" however, this may be a good thing because the poster is for a horror film. Therefore, we cannot use bright, extravagant colours otherwise it would not follow typical conventions.

Julie's review of our Magazine Q&A
Question 1- Answer Analysis
The respondent has said that the colours used are suitable for a horror magazine. From listening to the audiences feedback, the colours of black and red are most symbolic and recognisable of showing horror as the "red is symbolic of blood and the black symbolic of death".. This tells me that without certain colours on the magazine, it wouldn't be clear to the target audience that the magazine is from the horror genre which means that the magazine wouldn't be effective in reaching their target audience.
This also means that we didn't need to go back and change any of the colours which we used as it was appealing to Julie, a fan of horror films, which means that there is a high chance it would be appealing to majority of horror fans.

Question 2-Answer Analysis
From julie's response to question 2, we see that she believes our magazine was representing the thriller sub-genre. This is due to the lack of iconic weapons belonging to the slasher sub-genre. From the audiences research, we now know that our magazine wouldn't be considered successful in reaching our target audience as we are missing key items such as blood, gore and weapons which are all symbolic of the slasher sub-genre.
Question 3-Answer analysis
from looking back at our audience feedback, it is clear that our magazine looks like it was professionally composed. The audience has stated conventions of a magazine which we have included such as the dominant image and the masthead. This means that it is recognisable as being a magazine from a some-what professional production company.
Question 4-Answer Analysis
Our second respondent has said that from looking at the magazine itself, they don't feel motivated enough to want to watch the actual trailer. This is due to the lack of horror, being connoted which means that our target audience wouldn't be interested. A way in which we could overcome this is by adding more visceral things from our trailer into the background such as the blood in the sink etc. This could also means that our magazine is not successful in reaching all members of our target audience and therefore it could be considered as an unsuccessful product.
