Hand Drawn Poster Drafts
The drafting designs for my posters were influenced by the film 'Evil Eyes' released in 2004. The eyes were seen as a powerful and manipulative prowess, honed by evil forces. As you can see in my two drafts, the eyes have a pattern inside which is connotes demonic symbols, such as the pentagrams. The text used on the poster for evil eyes do not fall along the same line, this influenced the layout for the text used on "The Devil Inside" as all the letters are on different levels. This is meant to show a foreshadowing darkness for the contents of the poster. |
This is a poster from the movie "the skeleton key", my poster draft "I see you" took inspiration from this poster as it shows a persons eye as the dominant image with the reflection of another figure inside the eye. The eye in this poster shows the reflection of a character in a wheelchair whereas my draft poster shows the reflection of a crucifix. This is an effective approach for a poster as it gives the audience a sense of being watched, the reflection allows the audience to see from the characters point of view.

Here you can see that I have used photos from the internet to recreate the hand drawn poster design. I think that this recreation was successful as it shows the eye emerging from the darkness as shown in the drawings with the designs in the eye, on the other hand, I wasn't able to recreate the crucifix in the middle of the eye because I couldn't find an image of a crucifix emerging from the light, similar to that of my drawing. I encountered a number of problems when trying to recreate the drawings. The main would be the merging of the two images which I attempted to merge together, I wasn't able to fully get the colour from the background to merge over the eye.
The designs for this poster was influenced by the poster for Friday the 13th. My poster draft has the main antagonist who is wearing a mask to hide his identity from his victims. The mask the antagonist is wearing has a large scar through the right eye which is there to show that the antagonist has a weapon that can scar his victims, this is a phallic symbolism. The knife on the drawing is there so that the audience knows what the antagonist uses as his weapon for killing his victims. This can be seen as phallic symbolism as the knife penetrates his victims; if the knife penetrates another male it emasculates the victim and if the knife penetrates a female, it shows the loss of innocence as it can be seen as rape (a sexual act).

The draft poster "the devil inside" took inspiration from one of the early posters for the film "Carrie". This posters shows a female character as the dominant image and she is showing a direct mode of address. The poster also shows character with blood all over her face for further horror/gore affect. I attempted to replicate each pf these conventions in my drawings by using a direct mode of address, but instead of using blood, i added a scar to my model as well as half a mouth in an attempt to differentiate the two posters.
This is a poster for the film Friday The 13th, this poster is effective as it shows the antagonist with a mask on looking over a city and holding a knife. The mask the killer is wearing is iconic because it shows that the killers identity is unknown and could be anyone that we see in the film. The fact that we see the antagonist holding a knife and looking over the city is symbolic as it shows us that the antagonist operates in that area and everyone located there are his potential victims.

This is the final draft which was made called 'VENGEANCE', this draft will be used as the layout for the final production of our poster. This draft poster was influence by the poster for 'FRIDAY the 13th'. This poster was very influential as it shows 'Jason' the antagonist as the dominant image and he is holding a machete which is the weapon he uses to inflict harm upon his victims. The image features Jason as a half silhouette with the upper half of his body being visible rather than a silhouette. The background shows Jason emerging from a forest and the only light is in the sky which connotes that Jason's thoughts and actions are of a dark nature. We also see that Jason is standing in front of the light which shows the juxtaposition of dark and light. On my poster draft, I have the model as a half silhouette, similarly to that of the Jason poster. The antagonist in my poster has a baseball bat with nails on the end which is his weapon that he uses on his victims. The model in my poster isn't shown emerging from a forest like Jason, instead the model has a red glowing aura emitting from them which connotes that the antagonists intentions and actions end with bloody outcomes.
